My name is Raymond Prentice, I started snowboarding at the age of 3, my parents were long time snowboarders so they brought me into the sport early on in my life. It wasn't till I turned 15 that I decided I wanted to become a profesional snowboarder. As my mum was Italian Italian felt like the best place to start so I found a school in Bardonechia a resort, near my mums home town and in October of 2015 I moved there.
At the end of that season I contacted the British Team as my father was from Scotland and I asked them the
prerequisites to join the team and after being turned away I decided that if I really wanted to go pro I would
have to find a place which I could snowboard all year round so after asking around a bit I found a school in Finland.
The facilities in Finland were a whole other level compared to Italy, including an indoor pipe which we could ride all year round and
the season started in October and ended in May giving me a substantialy more hours on the board.
By the end of my first year in Finland the British Team had contacted me and asked me to join their
Olympic Training Program and of course I accepted. It was the end of 2018 when I got drafted to train with the
British Olympic Team and I must admit that has been my best season in snowboarding so far.
I got a bronze medal at the European Cup in Laax and it seemed like the hard work was starting to pay off.
During the summmer of 2019 I went through a fundamental mind shift and decided to dedicate myself
on more things and put snowboarding to the side and go through university.
I graduated from uni and I have returned to riding more often however my days of fanatically
chasing the snowboard dream have defitely matured.
I spent the winter of 2022 teaching in a school in Greece and I must say that even though
at the beginning of my career I never believed I would as a snowboard instructor I must say that I really enjoy
transmitting all the dirty secrets I have learned over the years to the world.
